O2 Slovakia SIM card: the Voľnosť prepaid card, and what about eSIM?
O2 Slovakia's Voľnosť prepaid card refunds its SIM price as credit and claims 97 percent population coverage. We could not confirm a prepaid eSIM.
Is an O2 Slovakia SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It can be, for a stay of a few weeks, if you are happy to register in an O2 shop. The O2 Slovakia SIM card for prepaid users is O2 Voľnosť. O2 Slovakia is the former 4ka and Slovanet business, now branded O2. Our notes rate it a good nationwide 4G network, though the page we read makes its own, different claim.
What does O2 Voľnosť cost?
O2's Voľnosť page (read 8 October 2026) lists calls at EUR 0.19 per call to all networks and texts at EUR 0.10. Data is unlimited for EUR 1.44 a day, charged only on days you use it, or in 4-week packages: 1 GB for EUR 3, 5 GB for EUR 7, 10 GB for EUR 9. The card price is returned as credit. The page states there are no invoices or commitment, and credit can be used for up to 12 months after a top-up.
Packages are activated in the O2 app, on the website, or by SMS to 99222. Unlimited daily data starts on its own when mobile data is on and no package is active. Daily data and packages can be used in the EU, with a 1.8 GB daily EU limit above which a surcharge applies. The page gives two different surcharge rates, so ask O2 for the current one.
Is registration needed, and does it have an eSIM?
Yes to registration: the page says entering personal data is mandatory to register and activate the card. It does not name the documents. You can buy the card at an O2 store without activating it, but it will not work until it is, and online purchases need online activation. Bring your passport.
On eSIM, the Voľnosť page says nothing. O2's support pages describe eSIM for new plans and for conversions at a store, and an O2 press release promised a prepaid rollout to Voľnosť customers, but we could not confirm that it happened. Ask O2 directly if you need an eSIM.
What does O2 say about coverage?
The page claims the service is available to 97 percent of Slovakia's population. That is O2's own marketing figure, and population coverage is not coverage on a mountain trail. There is a coverage map to check.
O2 Slovakia SIM card or a travel eSIM?
With a travel eSIM you install before travel and need no registration. With O2 you get a Slovak number and cheap local data, at the cost of a shop visit. No travel eSIM provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network. Compare on our Slovakia SIM card page and cheapest eSIM. See Slovak Telekom, Orange Slovakia and the Slovakia hub.
Common questions
How much is an O2 Slovakia SIM card?
O2's Voľnosť page says the card price is returned as credit. Data is unlimited for EUR 1.44 a day, or packages of 1 GB for EUR 3, 5 GB for EUR 7 and 10 GB for EUR 9 over 4 weeks. Check the page for current prices.
Can tourists register an O2 Slovakia SIM?
The page says entering personal data is mandatory to register and activate the card, and that a card bought in a store will not work until activated. It does not name the documents, so bring a passport and ask.
Does O2 Slovakia have a prepaid eSIM?
The Voľnosť page does not mention eSIM. O2 support pages describe eSIM for new plans and conversions, and a press release promised prepaid eSIM later. We could not confirm that, so ask O2 before relying on it.
What does O2 say about coverage in Slovakia?
O2's Voľnosť page claims availability for 97 percent of Slovakia's population, which is its own marketing figure and does not guarantee signal on rural routes or mountain trails. Check the O2 coverage map.
Is O2 Slovakia better than a travel eSIM?
O2 gives a Slovak number and low-cost local data but needs registration in a shop. A travel eSIM can be installed before departure. We cannot say which network any travel eSIM uses unless the provider publishes it.
