Nomad in Mexico: cheapest at most sizes, no network named, no 50 GB

Correction: the prices and the network were both wrong

Until 18 August 2026 this page said Nomad sold three Mexican plans, all 30 days — 5GB at ten dollars, 10GB at seventeen, 20GB at twenty-five — that all three were indicative, and that Nomad's listing pointed to Telcel. It called the Telcel claim the most useful thing on the page.

Nomad's Mexican catalogue has now been read off its own site. There are nine plans, not three; the metered prices are one to two and a half dollars higher than we published; there is a small plan and there is an unlimited range, both of which we said did not exist. And Nomad publishes no host network in Mexico — or in any of the 47 countries it sells in. The Telcel attribution came from third-party copy, not from Nomad, and it has gone.

The range

All verified on 18 August 2026. Hotspot tethering is supported across the range, which matters more here than at most providers, because 20GB is enough to be worth sharing.

Where it ranks

Airalo's figures are Chido, the cheaper of the two lines it sells in Mexico, read on 13 August 2026; Saily's were read on 16 August 2026. Nomad is the cheapest verified price at every one of those sizes, by $1.50 to $3.50 against Chido and by $3 to $10.49 against Saily. The old page claimed the same thing on figures nobody had checked; it now happens to be true on figures somebody has.

Where it stops

Nomad has no Mexican plan above 20GB, and that is the one thing that costs it the argument. Its best rate is $1.38 a gigabyte, on the 20GB. Airalo's Chido 50GB for 30 days at $45 is $0.90 a gigabyte — a third cheaper, verified, and the lowest rate in the Mexican market. If you are staying a month or working from Mexico, Airalo wins on rate even though Nomad wins at every size the two both sell.

That is worth stating plainly because it is the opposite of what Nomad does elsewhere. In Japan it is Nomad that sells the big plan and Airalo that stops at 20GB. In Mexico it is the other way round.

The network

Nomad does not publish one, and neither do Airalo, Saily or eSIMCard; eSIM Go has no consumer page on which it could. No seller names Mexican carriers. This page used to credit Holafly with Telcel and Movistar, which came from our own data; Holafly publishes no host carrier for any country — we read its prices for 28 of them off esim.holafly.com on 18 August 2026 and not one names an operator.

This matters in Mexico more than in most countries. Telcel has the widest rural footprint of the three national networks, and the difference shows up in specific places: the interior of Oaxaca and Chiapas, the Copper Canyon, and the long federal-highway stretches on the Yucatán run between Playa del Carmen and Mérida. Ride-hailing works on anything in Mexico City or Guadalajara; on a rural highway it works on whatever has a signal.

An earlier version of this page told you Nomad would put you on Telcel. It will not tell you that itself, and neither will anyone else with a verified price. If you are driving into rural Mexico and connectivity is not optional, buy a local carrier's own SIM, where you know exactly what you have. A prepaid Mexican SIM costs around $8 at the airport and requires no ID at all.

The small end

Nomad's 1GB for 7 days at $5 is a real plan, and we previously said it did not exist. It is still the third-cheapest entry: Airalo's verified Chido 1GB for 3 days is $4 and Saily's verified 1GB for 7 days is $4.99, which matches Nomad's duration for a penny less.

The unlimited plans are the more interesting addition. $10 for three days or $22 for a week compares well with Holafly's indicative $6.90 for one day and $27.90 for seven, and with Airalo's verified $10.50 for three days and $23.50 for seven. For a short trip where you cannot predict usage, Nomad is a reasonable buy at the top of that list rather than an absent one.

Verdict

Nomad is the cheapest verified eSIM in Mexico at 3GB, 5GB, 10GB and 20GB, and a fair buy on short unlimited windows. Take the 10GB at $15.50 for a normal week or two, or the 20GB at $27.50 if you are tethering.

Go to Airalo's Chido if you want a bigger plan than Nomad sells. Its 50GB month at $45 is the only one in the country under a dollar a gigabyte. Go to a local Telcel SIM if the route is rural, because no travel eSIM here will tell you whose towers you are on. Full comparison on the Mexico hub.
