Holafly's Mexico eSIM: verified prices, and nothing left to recommend

The proposition, and the restrictions attached to it

Holafly does one thing in Mexico: unlimited data, sold in six fixed lengths. We read all six off esim.holafly.com on 18 August 2026 — $10.90 for 3 days, $17.50 for 5, $23.90 for 7, $31.90 for 10, $43.90 for 15 and $64.90 for 30 — and Holafly sells nothing else here.

That is a different product from the one this page used to describe. The old version listed four durations: $6.90 for a single day, $27.90 for 7, $47.90 for 14 and $62.90 for 30. None of those figures had been read off Holafly. There is no one-day plan and no fourteen-day plan; the seven-day plan is $23.90 rather than $27.90; the month is $64.90 rather than $62.90.

Hotspot tethering is not supported. That is not a setting you can toggle; it is how the product is sold. If a laptop, a tablet or a travelling companion's phone needs to share the connection, this plan cannot do it, and unlimited data does not compensate for that in any way.

Calls and SMS are not included either. Data only.

Airalo's verified unlimited, side by side

Airalo also sells unlimited data for Mexico, read off its own site on 13 August 2026. Airalo runs two Mexico lines, Chido and Chido Plus, but unlimited is sold only as Chido, so there is no dearer twin to trip over here. Both ladders are now verified, and they line up length for length.

Airalo is cheaper or level at all six, and it permits tethering. The gaps are small — this is not the $4-and-$5 rout the old table showed, because the old table was comparing invented Holafly prices against real Airalo ones — but they run one way, and the hotspot difference is free.

Nomad is the third option and undercuts both at the short end: a verified $10 for three days, $17 for five, $22 for seven and $30 for ten.

The thing Holafly used to have to itself, and no longer does

This section was headed "the one thing Holafly has to itself" and it was the single-day plan at $6.90 — recommended here for a long layover at Mexico City or Cancún, a day between flights, maps and a video call home without buying a week.

There is no such plan. Holafly sells six lengths in every country it covers and the shortest is three days. The layover recommendation is withdrawn: the cheapest short unlimited window for Mexico is Nomad's three days at $10, and if a layover is genuinely all you need, Airalo's verified 1 GB over three days at $4 will cover maps and messaging for a quarter of the money.

What Holafly says about the network: nothing

This page used to say Holafly's own Mexico listing pointed to Telcel and Movistar, and hedged it as the provider's marketing rather than a fact. The hedge was not enough, and it was not even accurate. Holafly publishes no host network for Mexico, and none for any of the 28 countries whose prices we read on 18 August 2026. The Telcel and Movistar attribution came from our own dataset. We have removed it rather than caveat it, because naming a carrier at all is what does the damage — a reader weighing rural coverage does not weigh the disclaimer.

Telcel does have the widest rural reach in Mexico, and that fact is unchanged. What has changed is that no travel eSIM sold here — not one of the six — offers a way to buy it deliberately. Where coverage really decides your trip, the Copper Canyon, rural Oaxaca and Chiapas, Holbox and Contoy, the reliable move is a local carrier's own prepaid SIM.

Is unlimited worth it in Mexico at all, and the verdict

Usually not. A month of Holafly unlimited is $64.90. Airalo's verified Chido 10GB for 30 days is $18.50 (the Chido Plus version is $26), and Nomad's verified 10GB is $15.50. Unless you stream video daily or work off your phone's connection, 10GB covers a month of maps, messaging, ride-hailing and photo uploads.

The comparison gets harsher still against a local SIM, which costs about $8 in Mexico and needs no ID at all to buy — no passport, no registration form, no waiting for an activation text.

So: there is now no length at which we would send you to Holafly for Mexico. Airalo is cheaper or level at all six, permits tethering, and names a network exactly as often as Holafly does, which is never. Nomad is cheaper again up to ten days. The old verdict — buy the one-day plan, buy nothing longer — rested on a plan that does not exist.
