Three Ireland SIM card: Visit Ireland plans, eSIM and airport pick-up
Three has two Visit Ireland prepaid plans, 5 GB for 7 days at 15 euros or 25 GB for 28 days at 25 euros, with eSIM and airport options.
Is a Three Ireland SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
For a short trip, yes. A Three Ireland SIM card for tourists comes as one of two Visit Ireland plans, priced for one week or one month, and Three sells an eSIM version. Our own notes call Three the best Irish network for data speed. We could not confirm that on Three's pages, so treat it as a lead.
What are the Three Visit Ireland plans?
Three's visitor page (read 8 October 2026) lists two plans:
- Visit Ireland 5GB
- EUR 15, valid 7 days from a single top-up of EUR 15 or more. It includes 5 GB of Ireland and EU data and 50 minutes for use in the Republic of Ireland
- Visit Ireland 25GB
- EUR 25, valid 28 days. It includes 25 GB of Ireland and EU data, 250 minutes and texts, and 50 international minutes
Topping up at or above the plan price during an active period starts a new period, and unused allowances do not carry over. Spare credit expires 30 days after top-up. The page lists the data as "Ireland and EU" but says allowances are for use in the Republic of Ireland only, and does not clear up the difference. Extra minutes cost EUR 5 per 100, added in the My3 app.
How does the Three eSIM work, and where can you buy a SIM?
The page says compatible devices activate the eSIM automatically during setup, with no QR code, and that Three emails a QR code if that does not work. Phones without eSIM can get a physical SIM in a store. The eSIM comes with a new Irish number, and you can keep your home number on a dual-SIM phone.
Top up online with a card or PayPal, in the My3 app, or by dialling 1744 from a Three number. At Dublin Airport, prepay SIMs are at WH Smith in Terminal 1, and SIM Local machines in Terminals 1 and 2. The page does not mention ID requirements.
What does Three say about 5G and coverage?
Three's prepay pages promote its network as Ireland's fastest and show prepay plans as 5G enabled. A Three document on 5G access for prepay customers says you need a 5G-ready phone and an eligible plan, that the coverage checker is a guide rather than a guarantee, and that 5G does not currently work with roaming. We saw more than one population-coverage figure across Three's pages, so we do not quote one. The visitor page itself does not say whether the Visit Ireland plans include 5G.
Three Ireland SIM or a travel eSIM?
Three's plans run on an Irish number with fixed 7 or 28 day periods. A travel eSIM can be set up before you leave and may cover several countries. No travel eSIM provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network. See Ireland SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM. For the other networks read Vodafone Ireland and Eir, or the Ireland hub.
Common questions
How much is a Three Ireland tourist SIM card?
Three's Visit Ireland plans cost EUR 15 for 5 GB valid 7 days, or EUR 25 for 25 GB valid 28 days. Extra minutes are EUR 5 per 100. Check Three's visitor page for the current prices before you travel.
Does Three Ireland have an eSIM for tourists?
Yes. Three's visitor page says compatible devices activate the eSIM automatically during setup, with a QR code emailed if not, and phones without eSIM can get a physical SIM in store. The eSIM comes with a new Irish number.
Where can I buy a Three SIM at Dublin Airport?
Three's page lists WH Smith in Terminal 1 for prepay SIMs and SIM Local machines in Terminals 1 and 2. You can also use a Three store. The page does not state any ID requirement.
Does the Three Visit Ireland plan work in the EU?
The page lists data as Ireland and EU data but also says all allowances are for use only in the Republic of Ireland. It does not explain the difference, so ask Three before using it abroad.
Is Three better than a travel eSIM for Ireland?
Three gives an Irish number and 7 or 28 day plans. A travel eSIM can be installed before departure. We could not verify Three's speed claims independently, and cannot say which network a travel eSIM uses.
