Eir Ireland SIM card: prepay offers and eSIM for visitors
Eir has no tourist plan we could find. Its prepay starts from 10 euros and claims 99 percent 5G population coverage.
Is an Eir Ireland SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It can be, but it is the least visitor-oriented of the three Irish networks. Eir has no tourist plan on the pages we read, unlike Three and Vodafone. An Eir Ireland SIM card is an ordinary prepay SIM, and the page we read does not say what a visitor needs to buy or activate one.
What does Eir prepay cost?
Eir's prepay page (read 8 October 2026) says offers start from "as little as" EUR 10. It names one offer, Simplicity, which gives unlimited domestic data for customers who signed up from 22 October 2024. Voice and text are subject to a fair usage policy of 3,000 minutes and 3,000 texts per 28 days. Top-ups can be scheduled every 28 days.
Without an active offer, pay-as-you-go rates apply: 12 cent connection plus 39 cent a minute for calls, 15 cent per text, and data at EUR 1.99 a day for up to 100 MB, then 2 cent per MB. Those out-of-offer rates are high, so a visitor should activate an offer straight away. Eir's support text says to activate one by texting the offer code to 50104 before you top up. The page also advertises EUR 20 free credit for people switching to Eir prepay. That is aimed at people moving numbers.
Does Eir sell an eSIM?
Eir has an eSIM page and eSIM support pages describing instant activation and managing several numbers. We could not load them, and we could not confirm whether prepay customers can get one, how a visitor would buy it, or what ID is required. Ask in an Eir store.
Eir Ireland coverage and 5G
The prepay page claims unlimited 5G data and "99% 5G population coverage". That is Eir's statement about population, not about every road or island, and the page links a coverage map for checking. Our Ireland notes give a similar figure for 4G, which we could not confirm.
Eir Ireland SIM or a travel eSIM?
For a week or two, a travel eSIM bought at home saves any shop visit. Eir makes sense if you are staying longer, want an Irish number and are happy to set up prepay in person. No travel eSIM provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network, so we cannot say if one uses Eir. Our Ireland SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page cover the alternatives, and the Ireland hub has the rest.
Common questions
Does Eir have a tourist SIM card?
We did not find a tourist plan on the Eir pages we read. Eir sells ordinary prepay SIMs with offers from EUR 10. Three and Vodafone both have dedicated pages for visitors, so Eir is the one to choose if you want to stay longer.
How much is Eir prepay?
Eir says its prepay offers start from as little as EUR 10, with top-ups every 28 days. Without an active offer, data costs EUR 1.99 a day for up to 100 MB, so activate an offer. Check Eir's page for the current offers.
Does Eir have an eSIM?
Eir has an eSIM page describing instant activation, but we could not load it. We could not confirm whether prepay customers can get an eSIM or whether a visitor can buy one. Ask Eir before you rely on it.
How good is Eir's 5G coverage?
Eir's prepay page claims 99 percent 5G population coverage and unlimited 5G data. That is a population figure, not a map of every road or rural area. Eir links a coverage map on the page you can check for your route.
Is Eir better than a travel eSIM for Ireland?
For a short stay a travel eSIM saves a shop visit and can be installed before departure. Eir suits longer stays with an Irish number. We cannot say which network any travel eSIM uses unless the provider publishes it.
