SFR France SIM card: what we could confirm for visitors

SFR's own site was not accessible to us, so this page says what the RED by SFR site shows and what to check yourself.

What we could and could not verify about SFR

We tried to read SFR's own site on 8 October 2026, and our tools could not access sfr.fr. So this SFR France SIM card page is deliberately short. The one SFR-related page we could read was the site of RED by SFR, SFR's no-commitment mobile brand, and it tells us little about visitors. We would rather say what we could not confirm than fill the gap from memory.

Is an SFR France SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

We cannot say from SFR's own pages. What the RED by SFR page did show: no-commitment mobile plans, with a 120 GB plan advertised at €12.99 a month on the day we read it, a line that can be changed or cancelled at any time, and online activation. It talks about the SFR network with 4G and 5G, but gives no figures and sends you to a coverage page. It does not mention eSIM, does not say what ID is needed to activate, and says nothing about visitors or prepaid cards.

What to check before buying SFR

  • Prepaid or plan. We could not confirm whether SFR sells a prepaid card to short-stay visitors. A no-commitment plan is billed monthly and may need a French bank account; the page did not say.
  • ID. What a visitor must show is not stated on the pages we could read.
  • eSIM. Not mentioned on the page we read.
  • Coverage. SFR points to its own coverage map. Use it for your route.

SFR against other French options

The networks we could read in full are Orange France, with a prepaid range built for visitors, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile. Our France SIM card comparison puts local SIMs next to travel eSIMs, and the cheapest eSIM page shows prices we have verified for travel eSIMs. A travel eSIM is bought before you fly and needs no French registration, which helps when you cannot confirm a local SIM before landing.

The France hub links everything else we have for the country.

Common questions

Does SFR sell a SIM card for tourists in France?

We could not confirm it. SFR's own site was not accessible to us on 8 October 2026, and the RED by SFR page we read does not mention visitors or prepaid cards. Check SFR directly before relying on it.

Can a visitor get an SFR eSIM?

We could not verify this. The RED by SFR page we read does not mention eSIM. Ask SFR or a shop whether a visitor can get one, and check your phone is unlocked and compatible.

What ID does an SFR SIM need?

The pages we could read do not say. We would not guess. Bring your passport and confirm at the point of sale or during online activation.

What coverage does SFR claim?

The RED by SFR page speaks of the SFR network with 4G, 5G and fibre, without figures, and points to a coverage page. We have no verified percentage, so check SFR's coverage map for the places you will visit.

Is SFR cheaper than a travel eSIM?

We cannot compare, because we could not verify SFR's visitor pricing. A no-commitment plan was advertised at €12.99 a month for 120 GB on RED by SFR, but whether visitors can use it is unconfirmed. See our cheapest eSIM page for verified travel prices.
