Free Mobile France SIM card: a monthly plan for visitors
Free Mobile sells a no-commitment 5G+ plan in its shops and kiosks. What its travel page says, and what it leaves out.
Is a Free Mobile France SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It can be, if you will walk into a Free shop. A Free Mobile France SIM card for a visitor is a monthly plan with no commitment, bought in a Free store or kiosk. Free has a page written for people travelling in France and Europe. We read Free's pages on 8 October 2026; this is desk research, not a test. See the France hub for the other networks.
What does Free offer travellers?
The page is built around the Free 5G+ plan, at €19.99 a month with no commitment. Free lists 350 GB of 5G or 5G+ data, 35 GB of 4G data in more than 115 destinations (the list includes European countries, Canada, Australia, the USA and South Africa), a French number, and unlimited calls and texts in France. Its FAQ extends the calls and texts to Europe. The page does not say whether the 5G allowance works outside France. The price is Free's, on the date we read; check Free's travel page before you plan around it.
It is a monthly plan, not a Free Mobile prepaid card, so it suits a stay of a month or more better than a long weekend.
Where to get it
Free says you can subscribe in about three minutes at a Free store or kiosk, and that it has over 260 shops and 830 kiosks in France. The page does not mention airports.
Free Mobile eSIM
You can take a pre-activated physical SIM from the store and use it straight away, or take an eSIM for €10 in store and download it from your account under "Mon offre". Your phone must be eSIM-compatible, and Free points to its help site for the check.
Does Free need ID?
The travel page does not say what documents you need to subscribe, and we did not find the answer. Free's separate prepaid site, prepaye.free.fr, loaded for us as a list of headings only, so we cannot tell you its prices, SIM cost or registration rules. Check both before you travel.
Free Mobile coverage
Free says 94 percent of the population of France is covered by its 5G network. That is Free's claim and we have no independent figure. The page does not give a 4G population figure.
Free Mobile compared with a travel eSIM
A travel eSIM is bought before you fly with no shop visit. Free gives you a French number and a physical store to go to. If you will stay a month, our France comparison and the cheapest eSIM page show the difference in cost. Other networks: Orange France, Bouygues Telecom and SFR.
