Bouygues Telecom France SIM card: prepaid card or B&YOU?
Bouygues sells prepaid cards, a tourist card and monthly B&YOU plans. Here is what its pages say about each, and what they leave out.
Is a Bouygues Telecom France SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It is a fair one, with two different routes. A Bouygues Telecom France SIM card can be a prepaid card, which suits a short stay, or a B&YOU monthly plan, which asks for a bank IBAN and does not. We read Bouygues Telecom's pages on 8 October 2026; this is desk research, not a test. The France hub covers the rest.
What prepaid cards does Bouygues Telecom sell?
Bouygues says it sells three prepaid cards, classic, XL and international, each in 5, 10, 20 or 40 euro amounts. A prepaid card means you buy credit, which buys a fixed amount of calls, texts and data for a limited period, and then recharge. Nothing renews itself. The line closes twelve months after your last recharge.
For visitors, Bouygues describes a tourist product called My European SIM. It runs for 30 days, with unlimited calls and texts within France and Europe, 30 GB of data and 25 euros of credit for calls and texts to non-European countries. Check Bouygues's prepaid guide for today's price.
Where to buy
Bouygues says you can buy cards in its shops in France and at about 40,000 nearby points of sale such as tobacco and press shops. It does not mention airport counters on the page we read.
B&YOU monthly plans
B&YOU is a monthly no-commitment plan, not a prepaid card. On the page we read, plans ran from a 2-hour, 1 GB plan up to 300 GB on 5G, with a 200 GB "Spécial Voyage" plan on 5G. SIM and activation fees were €1 each and termination €5. The page says no documents are required, but you enter an IBAN at checkout. It does not say whether a non-French IBAN is accepted, which is the real question for a visitor, so we cannot answer it.
Does Bouygues need ID?
The prepaid guide does not say whether ID is required. We did not find it elsewhere on Bouygues's site, so we will not guess.
Bouygues eSIM
The pages we read only link to an eSIM installation guide. They give no details on who can order one or how.
Bouygues Telecom coverage
Bouygues says its 4G covers 99 percent of the population and that its 5G covers more than 84 percent, in over 19,000 communes. The page is not consistent about 5G, calling it national in one place and a progressive rollout, mostly urban, in a footnote. A Bouygues-commissioned survey is behind its customer satisfaction claim. These are Bouygues's own figures.
Bouygues against a travel eSIM
A travel eSIM is bought before you fly and needs no French registration or IBAN. A Bouygues prepaid card gives you a French number and a French network. See our France SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page. Other networks: Orange France, Free Mobile and SFR.
