Orange France SIM card: is Orange Holiday right for visitors?

Orange Holiday Europe is Orange's prepaid range for visitors. Packs, where to buy, registration and what the page does not say.

Is an Orange France SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

For most visitors, yes, and it is the carrier with a product built for them. An Orange France SIM card means the Orange Holiday range, a prepaid line sold to people visiting France and Europe. Orange claims the top mobile quality ranking from the French regulator ARCEP, which is Orange's claim and not our measurement. We read Orange's pages on 8 October 2026; this is desk research, not a test. The France hub covers the other networks.

What can a visitor buy from Orange?

Orange Holiday Europe is a set of six packs. On the Orange page, the two smallest are eSIM only: 1 GB for 7 days and 4 GB for 14 days. The 20 GB, 50 GB and 100 GB packs last 31 days, and a 500 GB pack lasts three months. Those four can be a SIM or an eSIM. The 20 GB pack and up include unlimited calls and texts within Europe, plus a small allowance of calls and texts to the rest of the world. Orange lists more than 40 European countries as covered, France included.

The page shows no price for the packs themselves. It lists top-ups of €19.99, €39.99 and €49.99. Current pack prices are on Orange's Holiday Europe page, so check there.

Where to get an Orange tourist SIM

Orange says the packs are sold online at travel.orange.com (eSIM only, per its FAQ), in Orange stores in mainland France, and at Relay stores in airports and train stations. Top-ups can also be bought in tobacco shops. If you want a physical card, plan on a shop or a Relay stand rather than ordering ahead.

Do you need to register an Orange prepaid line?

Yes. Orange says the line must be registered in your name within 30 days of arrival, or it is suspended. The page's FAQ words this differently, saying you must identify yourself during the validity period, so read the registration steps when you buy. It does not list which ID is accepted.

Orange prepaid eSIM

The Orange prepaid eSIM is bought online and installed by scanning a QR code from the confirmation email. It becomes active once the phone connects to a European network, so installing at home before you fly is possible. Orange's compatible-phone list is marked as last updated in October 2021, so check your phone separately.

Orange coverage and 5G

The smaller packs run on 4G/LTE, and the 100 GB and 500 GB packs are listed with 5G. Orange does not give a population coverage figure on the page we read. Its page also contains footnotes that conflict with the pack table (a 30 GB figure and a six-month line validity), so treat the table with some care and check the live page.

Orange against a travel eSIM

A travel eSIM is usually cheaper and needs no registration, and Orange Holiday gives you a French number with a French network under it. Our France SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM pages put numbers on that. Other French networks are SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile.
