Tigo Colombia SIM card: the prepaid eSIM page written for visitors
Of Colombia's local operators, Tigo is the one with an international prepaid eSIM page. We read it on 8 October 2026: one plan, one price, and some open questions.
Is a Tigo Colombia SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It is the most visitor-ready of the four local operators we looked at, because Tigo's shop has an "eSIM internacional" page for a prepaid line you can buy and activate digitally. A Tigo Colombia SIM card makes most sense if you will be in Colombia for a month or more, want a local number and are happy to spend more than a travel eSIM costs. For a week, it probably is not worth it.
What does the Tigo prepaid eSIM cost?
On 8 October 2026 the page at compras.tigo.com.co/esim-internacional showed a single plan: unlimited data, listed at COP 100,000 (marked as USD 25, which Tigo says is indicative), valid 30 days, with unlimited voice in Colombia and free WhatsApp and Facebook. The page does not describe a fair-use limit, so we cannot say if "unlimited" is capped. Prices change; read the page before you buy.
How do you buy and set up the Tigo eSIM?
The page asks you to make sure your phone is unlocked and eSIM-compatible, which you can check by dialling *#06# and looking for an EID code. You pick the plan, buy online and activate in minutes. Its warning is plain: do not delete the eSIM from the phone, because it cannot be installed again. Top-ups can be made at any top-up point or in the Mi Tigo app. The page says you can keep the eSIM if you stay in Colombia, and advertises no roaming charges for travelling with it.
What does Tigo not say here?
The page lists no passport or registration step, no airport counter, no coverage figure and no rule on tethering. We could not open tigo.com.co itself, since its security layer blocked our request, so we read only the shop pages. Ask Tigo before you rely on it for hotspot use or on a remote route.
Tigo Colombia SIM card or a travel eSIM?
Tigo's one-plan price is a clear data point against a travel eSIM, which you buy before landing and which usually comes in smaller, shorter bundles. See both side by side in our Colombia SIM comparison. Other operators: Claro Colombia, Movistar Colombia (whose prepaid link forwarded to Tigo's shop when we tried it) and WOM.

Common questions
Does Tigo Colombia offer an eSIM for tourists?
Tigo's shop has an international prepaid eSIM page. On 8 October 2026 it listed one plan: unlimited data for COP 100,000, valid 30 days, with unlimited voice in Colombia and free WhatsApp and Facebook. It does not use the word tourist, and it does not mention a passport.
How much is a Tigo Colombia SIM card?
We read only the eSIM price: COP 100,000 for the 30-day unlimited plan, marked as roughly USD 25 and described as indicative. We did not read a price for a physical Tigo SIM, so check Tigo's shop or a store for that, and for any current promotions.
Can I delete and reinstall a Tigo eSIM?
Tigo's page says not to delete the eSIM, because once removed it cannot be installed again. If you change phones, or the eSIM stops working, ask Tigo how to move the line before wiping anything, because the page does not explain a transfer process.
Does Tigo Colombia unlimited data have limits?
The page we read says unlimited data but gives no fair-use rule or speed cap, and does not mention hotspot use. We cannot say whether any limit applies. Ask Tigo's support or read the plan terms before you plan to share the connection or stream heavily.
Is Tigo better than a travel eSIM in Colombia?
For a month or longer, a local line at COP 100,000 may beat a stack of travel eSIM bundles. For a week, a travel eSIM bought before you fly is easier. Compare actual price, validity and gigabytes on the Colombia comparison page.
