Is a Claro Colombia SIM card the right choice for a visitor?

Maybe, but Claro's own pages do not make it easy to tell. A Claro Colombia SIM card is the sort of thing you buy in a shop with a passport and top up in packages, and the pages we read are built around Colombian customers. The eSIM page describes switching a line you already have with Claro, not buying a fresh tourist eSIM. What does Claro Colombia prepaid include?

On its prepaid page (read 8 October 2026) Claro advertises a welcome package for new lines and ported numbers: an all-included pack for 7 days at 50 percent off, activated through WhatsApp. It adds the free version of Claro Música, discount coupons through Claro Club, and 100 GB of free cloud storage. It also says you can port your number and "enjoy the 5G network".

Three conditions matter to a short trip. A line with no activity for 60 days may be deactivated. Balance can be recovered by topping up from COP 1,000 within 30 days of expiry. And the page lists no prices for the packs themselves in the text we read, so check them on Claro's site rather than here.

Does Claro Colombia offer an eSIM for tourists?

Claro's eSIM page says the eSIM costs nothing. The route shown is in the My Claro app: pick the line you want to move from a physical SIM to an eSIM, choose the phone model, pass identity validation by one-time code and facial check, and receive a QR code by email. A device checker lists compatible phones, which on the day we read it included recent iPhones and Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, Oppo and Xiaomi models.

What the page does not say is whether a foreign visitor with no Colombian line can buy a prepaid eSIM from scratch. It states no passport or other document rule either. Ask a Claro shop before you count on it.

What does Claro say about its Colombia coverage?

Claro's site links to coverage maps from its header, and its prepaid page mentions 5G, but the pages we read carry no population figure or speed claim. We are not repeating any number we could not confirm. Use the map for the towns on your route.

Claro Colombia SIM card or a travel eSIM?
