Holafly in Canada: unlimited, and a very narrow win

One product, in six durations, all unlimited, on a network Holafly does not name.

A correction, and it removes the best thing this page used to say about Holafly. We previously listed a one-day Canadian plan at $5.90 and called it genuinely useful for a Toronto layover, plus a 14-day plan at $44.90. Holafly sells neither. Its entire range, in Canada and everywhere else, is 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days. The month was listed here at $67.90 and actually costs $86.90 — a $19 understatement that carried the old verdict.

One oddity in the real ladder is worth spotting: seven days costs $32.90 and ten days costs $34.90. Two dollars buys three extra days, which makes the seven-day plan almost never the right purchase.

There is no hotspot. That is the single most important sentence on this page. If you travel with a laptop or tablet that relies on your phone for a connection, Holafly is not the product for you in Canada, and no amount of unlimited data changes that.

The network: what you are actually buying

This page used to answer that with one word, Rogers. The name came from our own older data rather than from Holafly, which publishes no host carrier for Canada or for any country we have read, so the honest answer is that you do not know. What is worth knowing is the shape of the market you are buying into blind. Rogers is one of Canada's Big 3; together with Bell and Telus it covers 99% of the country's populated areas, Rogers has the widest 5G footprint of the three, and the national average speed is 48 Mbps.

The regional split matters more here than the headline. Rogers is strongest in Ontario and Quebec — which happen to be Canada's most heavily visited provinces. Telus is stronger in western Canada, in British Columbia and Alberta, and Bell and Telus share rural tower infrastructure under a reciprocal agreement that Rogers is not part of.

So the geography of your trip matters, and no eSIM lets you act on it. Rogers is the network you would want for Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City; Telus for Vancouver, Banff, Jasper and the interior of BC. No seller for Canada names either. An earlier version of this page said Nomad and eSIMCard listed Telus and that Holafly was riding Rogers; all of that came from our own older text rather than from the sellers. For the Rocky Mountains specifically, any Big 3 carrier covers the main tourist routes, so the difference is about what happens once you leave them.

Against the other unlimited plans

Canada is the rare market where Holafly is not simply the dearest uncapped option — but the margins are pennies.

Holafly is cheapest at three days by 10 cents, at ten days by 10 cents and at fifteen days by 10 cents. Nomad takes five and seven days; Airalo takes the month. Those are rounding errors, not reasons — and Holafly is the only one of the three with a tethering block, which is not a rounding error at all.

Where the price stops making sense

Unlimited is a bet that you will use a lot. Here is where the bet turns.

For a week, you need to be confident of burning through more than 10GB before Holafly beats that verified Airalo capped plan, which costs $14.90 less. (Airalo sells the same 10GB over seven days for $26 under its dearer Canada Mobile Plus package, so check which one you are looking at.) Most city tourists do not get there — maps, messaging, ride-hailing and a normal amount of scrolling do not reach 10GB in a week.

For a month, the picture used to flip and no longer does. Holafly's $86.90 is more than Airalo's verified $84 for 50GB over 30 days and $17.90 more than Nomad's verified 50GB month at $69. A heavy user staying four weeks is now better off capped; a moderate user is better off with Nomad's verified 20GB at $31 and $55.90 left in their pocket.

The honest summary: there is no longer a length at which Holafly's Canadian pricing is decisively right. It wins three windows by a dime and loses the month outright.

Who should buy it

Buy Holafly Canada if you want an uncapped 10- or 15-day window, your phone is the only device that needs to be online, and you would rather not think about a counter. At $34.90 and $44.90 those two plans are fairly priced, whatever else is true.

Skip it if you need to tether, if you want a month (Airalo's unlimited is cheaper and Nomad's 50GB is much cheaper), or if your usage is ordinary — in which case Nomad's verified $8 for 3GB over thirty days, or Saily's verified $5.29 for 1GB over seven, will do the same job for a fraction of the money. A Canadian prepaid SIM is about $25 and needs no ID at all, which is worth knowing if you would rather have a local number.
