Holafly in Bulgaria: unlimited data you are not allowed to share

Six plans, all unlimited

Holafly sells Bulgaria one way: unlimited data for a fixed number of days. There is no small tier, no gigabyte decision and no top-up. These prices were read off Holafly's own site on 18 August 2026, and these six windows are the entire range — Holafly sells 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days here and everywhere else, and nothing in between.

Every rival column was read off that provider's own site. Holafly is the most expensive uncapped plan in Bulgaria at all six lengths — not by much at three and seven days, by $2.50 to $3.50 elsewhere, but never by less than nothing. There is no window where it is the cheapest way to buy uncapped Bulgarian data.

A correction. This page previously listed three Bulgarian plans, including a 25-day at $68.90, and priced five days at $19 and ten at $36.90. The 25-day plan does not exist, and the other two figures were $1.50 and 40 cents off the real ones. They came from our own generated dataset rather than from Holafly.

No calls or SMS are included on any Holafly plan. WhatsApp and the other messaging apps run over data, which is how most travellers use them regardless.

The hotspot problem

Holafly's Bulgaria plans do not support hotspot tethering. It is described as a network-level restriction rather than a setting you can switch on, so there is nothing to fix at your end. If you carry a laptop, or a tablet with no SIM of its own, that rules the plan out, and you should be checking the tethering terms on whatever you buy instead.

This matters more than the single line it usually gets. Unlimited data is worth most to exactly the people most likely to want to share it: someone working out of a Sofia apartment for a fortnight, or a family running two phones and an iPad off one plan. Holafly answers the first half of that and refuses the second.

What its coverage claim is worth

Holafly's own listing for Bulgaria names no carrier. We read it, and the A1, Vivacom and Yettel trio this page used to carry came from our own older data rather than from Holafly — as did every carrier name we once attributed to the company, here or in any of the other countries we checked. Airalo, Saily and Nomad publish no Bulgarian host network either, so there is no listing here at all. Any recommendation that turns on which network a plan lands on is guesswork.

What can be said plainly is where Bulgarian signal thins out: remote hiking trails in the Rhodopes, the Rila mountains above the ski resort bases including the Musala summit area, some deep Black Sea coastal cliffs, and rural villages in the north-west. No travel eSIM lets you pick your network, so none of them is the answer to that particular problem.

Does unlimited make sense in Bulgaria at all?

Bulgaria is a cheap country for capped data. Airalo's verified prices are $12 for 10GB over 30 days and $20 for 20GB over 30 days; Saily's 20GB month is $19.99 and its 10GB month $11.99. That 20GB month costs roughly what five days of Holafly costs.

So the test is simple. Holafly's five-day plan at $20.50 pays off only if you would get through about 20GB inside those five days. Streaming to a hotel TV or living on video calls, that is possible. On an ordinary trip — maps, messaging, scrolling, a few photo uploads — it is not close, and 10GB over a month for $12 leaves you better off with change to spare.

The traveller Holafly genuinely suits is the one who does not want to think about a data counter at all, on a single phone, for a short stay. That is a fair preference. It is just not one Holafly prices best in Bulgaria: Nomad's five-day unlimited is $18 and Airalo's is $18.50, both verified, and neither carries Holafly's tethering block.

Buying it, and the two cheaper questions

No passport is needed to buy a Holafly eSIM — you scan a QR code and you are on. A Bulgarian prepaid SIM costs about $9 at the airport from Vivacom, A1 Bulgaria or Yettel Bulgaria and gives you a local number, but registration requires a passport or ID at the counter.

Before either: Bulgaria is in the EU. If your everyday SIM is from an EU or EEA country, roam-like-at-home applies and your normal allowance should work here at no extra cost, subject to your tariff's fair-use cap. For a large share of visitors the correct spend in Bulgaria is nothing.

Verdict. Holafly is competent and expensive, and in Bulgaria it is beaten on its own terms at every length it sells — cheaper unlimited exists from two providers whose prices we have verified, without the tethering block.
