Vivacom Bulgaria SIM card: prepaid Free2Go, eSIM and the ID catch

Vivacom has no dedicated tourist SIM that we could find. Its Free2Go prepaid works for a longer stay, but registration needs an ID card or passport.

A Vivacom Bulgaria SIM card is a workable choice for a stay of a couple of weeks or more, and more effort than most visitors want for a long weekend. We looked for a tourist-specific Vivacom product on 8 October 2026 and did not find one. What a visitor can buy is the ordinary prepaid card, Free2Go, and Vivacom's eSIM. This is desk research from Vivacom's own pages.

Which Vivacom Bulgaria SIM card suits a visitor?

Free2Go is the prepaid plan. Vivacom's page says the starter pack carries a 0.51 EUR balance, 1,000 national minutes, 35,000 MB at full speed and 10,600 MB for use in the EU. After the 35,000 MB, speed falls to 64 Kbps while a small balance remains. The page does not state the price of the SIM itself, so we cannot quote one. Top-ups matter: a top-up up to 10.22 EUR starts a 60-day balance period, and 10.23 EUR or more starts 120 days. The SIM itself is valid 12 months, extended by each top-up over 3.07 EUR.

Add-ons are sold by SMS to 1236. Examples from the page: Data S, 2,000 plus 2,000 MB for 7 days at 5.00 EUR; Data L, 6,000 plus 6,000 MB for 21 days at 7.50 EUR; Mix M, 300 minutes, 25 SMS and 1,500 plus 1,500 MB for 14 days at 6.00 EUR. Free2Go roaming is switched on by default.

Does a Vivacom Bulgaria SIM card need a passport?

Yes, going by Vivacom's registration portal. It says to have an identity card or passport available. The page says nothing more about foreigners. Allow time for this on arrival, and bring the passport itself. The Free2Go page does not say when registration is required.

Vivacom eSIM: can a visitor get one?

Vivacom says eSIM is available on all subscription and prepaid plans, and new customers can choose SIM or eSIM without an extra fee. The page we read describes visiting a shop to swap a physical SIM for an eSIM, with a QR code to scan; it does not describe a fully online order. A one-off fee for swapping applies, set in a price list we could not see. Vivacom also says it guarantees quality only for listed eSIM devices bought from an official Bulgarian seller, so a phone bought elsewhere may be outside that promise.

Vivacom coverage and 5G

The Free2Go page title mentions 5G and the page describes a 5G prepaid card, but we found no coverage percentage or city list on the pages we read. Our Bulgaria network note says Vivacom is fastest. That is an unverified lead, not Vivacom's claim, so we do not repeat it as fact.

Vivacom or a travel eSIM?

If you only need data for a week, a travel eSIM (rather than a Vivacom Bulgaria SIM card) that you install before landing avoids the registration step and the shop visit. See our Bulgaria comparison and the cheapest eSIM page. Local options with simpler routes for visitors include A1 Bulgaria, which sells an eSIM data pack without registration, and Yettel, which sells a tourist eSIM online. The Bulgaria hub has the wider picture.

What Vivacom's site does not say

It does not give the Free2Go starter price, a tourist offer, an online eSIM order for visitors, or a coverage percentage in the pages we read. Its Travel Pass roaming packages are marketed to businesses, so we did not treat them as a visitor option.

Common questions

Is a Vivacom Bulgaria SIM card good for tourists?

It can be, for a stay of a couple of weeks or more. Vivacom has no tourist SIM that we found, so you would buy the Free2Go prepaid card and register it with a passport. Shorter trips are usually simpler with a travel eSIM.

Do I need a passport to register a Vivacom prepaid SIM?

Vivacom's prepaid registration portal says to have an identity card or passport available. It does not discuss foreigners separately. Take the passport itself with you when you collect the SIM, since registration is part of getting it working.

Does Vivacom offer an eSIM for visitors?

Vivacom says eSIM is available on all prepaid and subscription plans at no extra fee for new customers. The page describes getting it in a shop by QR code, not online, and mentions a one-off swap fee. Check Vivacom's price list for the current amount.

What does Vivacom Free2Go include?

Vivacom's page lists a 0.51 EUR balance, 1,000 national minutes, 35,000 MB at full speed and 10,600 MB for EU use. After the full-speed data, speed drops to 64 Kbps. Further packs are bought by SMS to 1236.

Is Vivacom or a travel eSIM cheaper in Bulgaria?

We cannot say, because Vivacom does not state a Free2Go SIM price on the page we read. Compare it with current travel eSIM prices on our comparison page. Vivacom suits calls and long stays, while a travel eSIM suits short data-only trips.
