Holafly in South Korea: the LG U+ reason to buy it was never real

The network question settles quickly, but not the way this page used to say

This page opened by telling you Holafly Korea ran on LG U+, and spent three paragraphs explaining why the country's third carrier was a better deal than it sounded — full national coverage, excellent 5G, particularly strong indoor and subway reception.

Holafly does not run on LG U+, as far as anyone outside Holafly can tell. It does not publish a host network for Korea, and when we read the prices for 28 countries off esim.holafly.com on 18 August 2026 we found it publishes one for no country at all. The LG U+ attribution was in our own dataset, not on Holafly's site, and we have taken it out rather than restate it with a hedge attached. "An unconfirmed LG U+ host network" would still be the reason a reader chose this plan for the Seoul subway, and there is nothing behind it.

The underlying market fact survives and is worth keeping. Korea's mobile market is mature to the point of flatness. It launched commercial 5G in April 2019, ahead of every other country, and all three carriers run near-universal urban coverage at a national average around 80 Mbps. SK Telecom rates highest overall in our data, but for tourist use the difference between SKT, KT and LG U+ is marginal — which is why not knowing which one you are on matters less in Korea than it would in Vietnam or Indonesia.

So the argument about Holafly here is a pricing one, and it always was.

What it actually costs

We read all six off Holafly's own site on 18 August 2026. This page previously held two rows — a one-day plan at $5.90 and five days at $22.90 — and said it would not guess at the rest. The restraint was right and the numbers were not: there is no one-day Holafly plan in Korea or in any other country, and five days is $20.50.

There is no hotspot on Holafly. Tethering is not supported on its Korean plans, which is the single most consequential thing on this page for anyone travelling with a laptop or a companion.

Unlimited is a harder sell in Korea than in most markets

Unlimited earns its premium where fixed data is expensive or coverage is thin. Korea is neither. Set Holafly against the prices we have verified elsewhere in the market:

Holafly is the dearest unlimited plan at every length where the three overlap: $12.50 against Airalo's $12 and Nomad's $11 at three days, $27.50 against $29 and $25 at seven — Airalo is dearer there — and $36.50 against $35 and $33 at ten. Above ten days Nomad stops, and Airalo is $49 against $50.50 at fifteen and $69 against $73.90 at thirty.

And a month of 10 GB still costs less than five days of Holafly. Unless you genuinely intend to stream all day, 10 GB is a lot of data in a country where free WiFi is in the airports, the subway, the convenience stores and the cafés.

Who it still suits

Very few people, and fewer than this page used to claim.

The one-night stopover recommendation is withdrawn with the plan it rested on. There is no $5.90 day pass; the shortest thing Holafly sells for Korea is three days at $12.50, and for a twelve-hour Incheon layover a verified 1 GB from Saily at $3.99 or Airalo at $4 does the job for a third of the money.

That leaves the heavy streamer who never tethers. Continuous video, all-day calls home, K-drama on the KTX: unlimited removes the arithmetic entirely, and Korea's networks are fast enough that you will genuinely use it. Even then, Airalo and Nomad sell the same thing at the same lengths for a dollar or two less and let you tether, so the honest answer is that we would not send anyone to Holafly for Korea.

The local SIM sits in the same price band

Worth knowing before you buy anything: our data puts a local Korean tourist data package at about $12 at the airport, and records the ID rule as none required — an instant purchase. That is a little over half the cost of five days of Holafly, it comes with a counter queue and a physical SIM swap, and it is the only route where you get to choose the carrier.
