Is an A1 Slovenija SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

Yes, on the evidence of its own page, with one caveat. An A1 Slovenija SIM card (A1 Simpl) is a plain prepaid product with no contract, sold in many ordinary shops, and the packs are priced for small amounts of data. For a week or two in Slovenia that is a decent fit. The caveat is that the page gives no registration or ID rule and no eSIM route for new prepaid customers, so you should ask when you buy.

What are the A1 Simpl packs?

A1's prepaid page, read 8 October 2026, shows packs "from 2.99 euros for 30 days", with promotional prices on display, so check the live page for the price you pay. The packs listed:

Simpl mini
2,000 minutes, SMS and MMS in Slovenia and the EU/EEA, and 2 GB, 30 days
Simpl maksi
unlimited minutes, SMS and MMS in Slovenia and the EU/EEA, and 100 GB in Slovenia, of which 13.4 GB can be used in the EU/EEA, 30 days
Simpl net
100 GB in Slovenia for 90 days, listed with no calls
Pay as you go

The page does not state whether a passport is checked.

What does A1 say about coverage?

On its network page A1 says its GigaNet network reaches 99 percent of the population and that its 5G network reaches 88 percent of residents. Those are A1's own figures. It gives no separate 4G number.

Does A1 have an eSIM?

Its eSIM page is written for existing and new subscribers: current customers can convert a physical SIM, and new subscribers get a QR code when they sign up. It does not describe a prepaid eSIM for a visitor.

A1 Slovenija SIM card or a travel eSIM?

A travel eSIM is bought before you fly, while an A1 SIM means finding a counter. The local pack may be cheaper for a long stay. Compare both in our Slovenia SIM comparison. Other operators: Telekom Slovenije and Telemach.
