Play Poland SIM card: prepaid starter, registration and eSIM

Play launched an eSIM prepaid starter on 20 August 2026 at a promotional 50 zł for two months. Registration with ID or passport is mandatory.

A Play Poland SIM card is a prepaid starter, and since August 2026 there is an eSIM version aimed squarely at visitors. Play's press release describes a starter with a printed QR code, so a tourist can add a local line as a second SIM while keeping their home number. Registration is compulsory, though, so budget a few minutes for it.

This is desk research from Play's public pages, read on 8 October 2026. We have not tested the service.

What does a Play Poland SIM card eSIM starter include?

Play's announcement, dated 20 August 2026, describes the new eSIM starter at a promotional 50 zł for two months of service. It includes unlimited calls, SMS and MMS in Poland and EU roaming, and 200 GB of data a month in Poland, of which 17 GB can be used in the EU. The article does not say what happens after the two months and calls the price a launch promotion, so check the current price in a store or the Play24 app.

It is sold in Play stores and selected retail points, and online at play.pl or in Play24. You register the number in store or online at purchase, then scan the QR code in your phone's network settings.

What does Play say about foreigners and registration?

Play's foreigners page says SIM registration is mandatory in Poland and can be done in a store or through electronic verification with selected banks. People aged 13 or over can register with an ID or passport. Online bank verification may be a barrier if you have no Polish bank, so the store route is the realistic one.

What does the older Play page for foreigners offer?

The English page for foreigners describes a package that needs a top-up of at least 50 PLN to activate the XXL 5G offer, with unlimited internet for six months. Parts of that page are dated: a "200 GB to start" promotion on it ran until 31 December 2025. Rely on the eSIM announcement and Play's current store prices, not this page's figures.

What does Play say about coverage?

The page names the "XXL 5G" package and links to a coverage map, with no coverage claims. We cannot confirm that Play is fastest in cities.

How does it compare with a travel eSIM in Poland?

The Play Poland SIM card eSIM starter is the carrier option that is closest to a travel eSIM: a QR code you scan yourself, and a data allowance listed up front. It still needs registration. Our Poland SIM card comparison sets the options side by side, our where to buy a SIM card in Poland page covers shops, and cheapest eSIM covers data-only plans. We do not name the local network behind travel eSIMs unless the provider publishes it.

The other Polish carriers in this series are Orange Polska, Plus and T-Mobile Poland. The Poland hub links the rest, including Warsaw Chopin Airport.

Common questions

Is a Play Poland SIM card good for tourists?

Play's new eSIM starter is built for it: a QR code, a second local line alongside your home SIM, and 200 GB a month in Poland, with 17 GB usable in the EU. The launch price was 50 zł for two months, and registration is mandatory.

Does Play have an eSIM?

Yes. Play announced an eSIM prepaid starter on 20 August 2026. It is a package with a printed QR code, sold in Play stores, selected retail points, online at play.pl and in Play24. You scan the code in your phone's network settings.

Do I need a passport to register a Play SIM?

Play says registration is mandatory and anyone aged 13 or over with an ID or passport can register, in a store or by electronic verification with selected banks. Without a Polish bank account, the store route is usually the easier one for a visitor.

How much does the Play eSIM starter cost?

The 20 August 2026 announcement gave 50 zł for the launch package covering two months. It described this as a launch promotion and did not give a separate standard starter price, so check Play24 or a Play store for the current price before you travel.

Are Play's data allowances the same in the EU?

No. The eSIM starter includes 200 GB a month in Poland, of which only 17 GB can be used in the EU, while calls, SMS and MMS are unlimited in Poland and in EU roaming. Check the EU limit before a multi-country trip, such as one that continues to Germany or the Czech Republic.
