Vodafone Netherlands SIM card: prepaid bundles, 5G and the posted eSIM voucher

Vodafone Netherlands sells prepaid SIMs from free to 30 EUR, 5G in its unlimited bundles, and a prepaid eSIM by post or in a store. Visitor rules are not stated.

A Vodafone Netherlands SIM card is a full prepaid system rather than a tourist pack: you choose a SIM, then buy bundles. It has several strengths for a longer stay, and it has no instant digital route for visitors. We read Vodafone's pages on 8 October 2026.

Which Vodafone Netherlands SIM card should you choose?

Vodafone's prepaid page lists a free SIM, and SIMs with data at a one-off price: 5 EUR (with 5 EUR credit), 10 EUR (2 GB), 15 EUR (4 GB), 20 EUR (6 GB) and 30 EUR (10 GB). Without a bundle, data costs 0.10 EUR per MB, calls 0.20 EUR a minute and SMS 0.15 EUR. Registering gives a 5 EUR bonus on the first top-up, and top-ups start at 5 EUR via iDEAL, Wero or card.

Bundles, as listed that day: unlimited data for 1 day 4 EUR, 3 days 9 EUR, 7 days 14 EUR, 14 days 24 EUR, and 30 days 44 EUR. Monthly data bundles run from 500 MB at 5 EUR to 10 GB at 29 EUR. A day bundle of 10 GB with 100 minutes and 100 SMS is 3 EUR, and a week bundle of 2 GB is 7 EUR. The unlimited bundles carry EU data caps (for example 25 GB in the EU for the 7-day bundle). The page shows two different prices for the 200-minute bundle, so check before buying.

Does a Vodafone Netherlands prepaid SIM need ID?

The page does not say what ID or registration is needed for a SIM; registration appears only in connection with the bonus. You can order online or buy in a Vodafone store. Ask if you plan to buy over the counter.

Vodafone Netherlands eSIM for visitors

Vodafone's support page says an eSIM is available for Prepaid. The route: request it on a SIM-swap page, and Vodafone posts an eSIM voucher with a QR code and ePIN; alternatively collect the voucher in a Vodafone store. Then activate it in the Vodafone & Ziggo app, by calling 0800-0094, or in a store. It is not instant, and nothing on the page speaks to visitors without a Dutch address. If you need a digital option, Odido's SimWallet is quicker to buy.

Vodafone Netherlands SIM card coverage and 5G

Vodafone says prepaid customers can use its 5G network and that the Unlimited bundles include 5G internet. The pages we read give no coverage percentage. Our Netherlands notes call every Dutch network world-class; that is not Vodafone's own claim. Your prepaid SIM works across the EU, with the EU country list on Vodafone's page and maritime and satellite networks excluded.

Vodafone or a travel eSIM?

For one week, Vodafone's 7-day unlimited bundle at 14 EUR plus a SIM cost is in the same bracket as other options, but you must also collect or receive the SIM. A travel eSIM installed at home is usually simpler for a short trip: see our Netherlands comparison and the cheapest eSIM page. For stays over a few weeks, or if you want calls and a Dutch number, Vodafone's bundles make sense. The other networks: KPN at a 4.99 EUR SIM, and Odido at 10 EUR. The Netherlands hub has the wider guide.

What Vodafone's pages do not say

ID rules, delivery details for the SIM, whether the eSIM voucher can be posted outside the Netherlands, and coverage numbers. We have not tested the service.

Common questions

Is a Vodafone Netherlands SIM card good for tourists?

It can suit a longer stay. Vodafone sells prepaid SIMs from free to 30 EUR, with unlimited bundles that include 5G and work across the EU. For a short trip, a travel eSIM is usually faster to set up.

Does Vodafone Netherlands offer a prepaid eSIM?

Yes, per its support page. You request it on a SIM-swap page and Vodafone posts a voucher with a QR code and ePIN, or you collect it in a store. It is not instant, and nothing says it suits visitors without a Dutch address.

How much are Vodafone Netherlands prepaid bundles?

As listed on Vodafone's prepaid page, unlimited data costs 4 EUR for 1 day, 9 EUR for 3 days, 14 EUR for 7 days, 24 EUR for 14 days and 44 EUR for 30 days. EU data caps apply. Prices change, so check.

Does Vodafone prepaid work in the EU?

Vodafone says your prepaid SIM works in the EU and monthly bundles are valid there too, with a list of countries on its page. Maritime and satellite networks are excluded, and the unlimited bundles carry EU data limits.

Do I need ID to buy a Vodafone Netherlands prepaid SIM?

Vodafone's prepaid page does not say what ID or registration is required for a SIM. Registration is mentioned for the 5 EUR bonus only. If you will buy in a store, ask there before your trip.
