Saily in Iceland: cheapest to start, and now cheapest at 3 GB and 5 GB too

Saily's Iceland range is five capped plans. Every price below was read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026.

That $3.99 is the lowest entry price of any provider in our Iceland data. Airalo's cheapest verified plan is $4 for 1GB over three days; Nomad's is $4.50 for 1GB over seven. Saily wins the headline, and it wins it on validity as well as price — a week rather than three days.

The rest of the ladder has moved. An earlier version of this page contrasted Nomad's checked $9.00, $12.50 and $16.00 with Saily's $9.99, $14.99 and $22.99 and concluded that the gap "runs one way". Those Saily figures were never read off Saily. On the real prices Saily takes 3GB by a cent and 5GB by a cent, and only loses at 10GB and above.

Iceland is also one of the more expensive markets in Saily's book. Its 1GB week costs $3.99 here against $1.99 in Austria and Czechia, and its 20GB month costs $31.99 against $15.99 in Austria — twice the money for the same allowance in another European country.

Is 1GB enough for Iceland?

Usually not, and this is the trap the headline price sets.

Iceland is a driving country. The standard trip is a hire car, a Ring Road loop or a run along the south coast, and live navigation for hours a day. Map tiles over a long driving day, plus weather and road-condition checks — which you should be doing in Iceland, not skipping — plus aurora forecasts in winter, will eat through a gigabyte quickly. Add photo uploads and 1GB is a two or three-day plan in practice, not a week's.

If you are stopping over in Reykjavík for a night, or you have hotel and guesthouse wi-fi and only need data between them, $3.99 is a genuinely good buy. For anything resembling a road trip, start at 5GB — and at $11.99 that is the cheapest 5GB month in the country.

Where the range runs out

Airalo's Iceland prices below were read off Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026 and Nomad's off Nomad's on 17 August 2026.

Saily is a cent under Airalo at 5GB and a cent under Nomad at 3GB. From 10GB up it loses, and the 20GB row is where it loses badly: Nomad charges $20 for what Saily sells at $31.99, a twelve-dollar gap on the same allowance over the same month.

Above 20GB Saily has nothing. If you are working from Iceland for a month, tethering a laptop, or travelling as a couple sharing one connection, Nomad's 50GB at $45 and Airalo's at $49 are where you have to look.

No published network

Saily does not publish which Icelandic operator its eSIM roams onto. We hold nothing for it — nor for Saily in any other country — and we will not infer a carrier, not from what other providers list and not from the older version of this page, which named specific Icelandic networks without any source behind them.

In practice this matters less in Iceland than in a country with genuinely uneven urban coverage. All three Icelandic operators serve the Ring Road, Reykjavík and the main tourist stops well. The gaps are the same for everyone: no signal on the F-roads through the interior, including Kjölur, Sprengisandur and the Landmannalaugar access routes; nothing in the highlands generally; unreliable coverage on minor Westfjords roads and in some fjord valleys in the north and east. No eSIM solves any of that. Offline maps do.

Where the missing information does cost you is if you have a specific preference — Síminn has the best reputation for reach away from populated areas — and want to guarantee it. Iceland is one of the easiest countries in Europe for that: local SIMs need no ID, purchase is instant, and airport SIMs run to around $20. That is above Saily's 5GB plan, so the eSIM still wins on price for most trips.

Verdict

Saily is the buy in Iceland up to 5GB: $3.99 for a gigabyte over a week, $8.99 for 3GB over a month and $11.99 for 5GB, each of them the cheapest of its size in our data.

For a road trip that needs more, go to Nomad — $16 at 10GB and $20 at 20GB, both well under Saily. Nomad's 50GB month at $45 is the only thing above 20GB worth having.
