Síminn Iceland SIM card (s minn): prepaid SIM and eSIM starter packs

Síminn sells a 3,000 kr prepaid SIM and an eSIM starter pack online. The unlimited version works only inside Iceland, and the page leaves the ID rule open.

A Síminn Iceland SIM card, often searched as "s minn iceland sim card", is sold as a prepaid starter pack in Síminn's webshop. We read that page on 8 October 2026. Síminn's main site returned a service notice when we tried it, so the starter-pack page is the only product source here.

Which Síminn Iceland SIM card can a visitor buy?

There are two starter packs on the page, with prices in Icelandic krona as listed that day:

  • Prepaid SIM Starter Pack, 3,000 kr. It carries 10 GB, 50 international minutes and 50 texts, usable in Iceland and the EEA. The 30-day validity starts when you put the SIM into a handset.
  • Prepaid eSIM Starter Pack, from 3,000 kr. The same 10 GB for 30 days with 50 international minutes and 50 texts, or an unlimited-data option for 14 days with unlimited minutes and texts to Icelandic numbers. The eSIM activates at purchase. The page says it will not work in countries outside the EEA, and the unlimited version works only in Iceland.

You top up on the Síminn website or in its app. A coverage map is linked from the page.

Where do you buy a Síminn SIM card, and is ID needed?

The page is an online store. It lists the Reykjavik head office address (Ármúli 25) and a link to opening hours, but does not say the starter packs are sold in person or at the airport. It does not mention an ID or passport requirement either. For an in-person sale, we would ask Síminn first.

Síminn Iceland SIM card coverage and the Ring Road

Síminn's pages that we reached make no coverage claim beyond the map link, and we found no 4G or 5G figures. Our Iceland notes describe Síminn as having the widest reach on the Ring Road and in the north and east. That is an unverified lead from our own data, not something Síminn states. If your trip is remote, open the coverage map and compare it with your route before paying.

Síminn eSIM or a travel eSIM?

Síminn's eSIM is a local plan with a stated size and a stated network, and it activates when you buy it, so you would buy it once you have a connection and are ready to use it. The page does not say when the 30 days start for the eSIM, only that the SIM's 30 days start when it is inserted. A travel eSIM can be installed at home. Compare options on our Iceland comparison and the cheapest eSIM page. The other local brands are Nova, which sells a travel eSIM and airport SIM, and Vodafone Iceland. The Iceland hub has the full guide.

What Síminn's page does not say

It does not give an ID rule, where in person the starter packs are sold, coverage detail, or what happens to unused data after 30 days. We have not tested the service, and prices in krona may change.
