Holafly phone number: only some plans have one, and it only receives texts
Holafly's day-based eSIMs are data only. A Holafly phone number comes with its monthly or annual Unlimited Plans, and it receives texts but does not take normal calls.
Does Holafly give you a phone number?
It depends on the product. A standard Holafly day-based eSIM carries data only. Holafly's help pages say it does not provide a temporary local phone number, SMS or traditional voice calls. A Holafly phone number exists only on the monthly and annual Unlimited Plans, and Holafly's page says there is no extra charge for it. This page sets out both cases.
The Holafly phone number on Unlimited Plans
Holafly's help article on SMS abroad with Holafly Plans is dated 30 October 2025 and was updated on 11 June 2026. We saw a secondary mention of 4 November 2025 as a start date for plans that include the number, but could not confirm it on Holafly's own page, so check the date against your order.
What the article says:
- Which plans
- the monthly and annual Unlimited Plans, not the day-based eSIMs
- Which numbers
- a +1 number (US or Canada) or a +44 number (UK). The number works in every country your subscription covers, whatever the prefix
- One choice only
- the country code cannot be changed later, so choose carefully
- How to get it
- in the Holafly app, open Plans, find the phone number section, pick your country code, save, choose whether SMS alerts go to the app or to email, save again, tick the consent box and activate
Our Holafly app page covers the app itself.
What the Holafly phone number can and cannot do
It is receive-only. Holafly says the number is virtual and hosted in the cloud. Its servers receive incoming texts and pass them to you over the internet, so they appear in the Holafly app or your linked email, not in your phone's normal messaging app. You cannot send texts, and regular cellular calls are not supported.
Holafly points out that some banks and services will not send codes to foreign numbers, so check before you rely on it for a bank login. Two further rules are easy to miss. A temporary number, for example one starting +43, may appear in your phone settings; Holafly says to ignore it, since it cannot receive codes, and not to delete or change it. And deleting the Holafly eSIM permanently removes your assigned number, so deactivate the line instead if you are not using it.
What about calls?
For calls, Holafly's advice on both product types is the same. Use apps that run on data, such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger or Telegram, or keep your home SIM on for voice and SMS and use the eSIM for data. Holafly warns your home carrier may charge roaming for calls and texts on that line, and suggests turning off data roaming on the home line.
Holafly's call article also notes that some countries partly restrict calling apps. It names China, the UAE, Oman, Qatar and, intermittently, Turkey. Some travellers use a VPN there, but only where it is legal, and Holafly says to check local rules first.
What we could not confirm about the Holafly phone number
Holafly's home page mentions a local phone number option alongside its unlimited plan. The help article is clearer, so we have followed the help article. We found no fee for the number (Holafly's page says it is included), no prefixes beyond the US, Canada and UK, and no way to bring your own number in. We also did not read Holafly's separate answer on why a data eSIM sometimes receives texts, so ask Holafly support about that.

We have not tested Holafly's plans, app or support ourselves. This page is desk research from Holafly's own site and help centre, read on 8 October 2026, and Holafly changes its rules from time to time.
Common questions
Does Holafly give you a phone number?
Not on its day-based eSIMs, which Holafly says are data only and do not provide a temporary local number, SMS or traditional voice calls. The monthly and annual Unlimited Plans include a Holafly phone number at no extra charge, according to Holafly's help article. You set it up in the app.
Which country codes can I pick for a Holafly phone number?
A +1 number for the US or Canada, or a +44 number for the UK. Holafly says the number works in every country your subscription covers, whatever the prefix, and that the country code cannot be changed later, so choose carefully. We found no other prefixes and no way to bring your own number.
Can the Holafly phone number make calls?
No. Holafly says the number is receive-only for texts, and regular cellular calls are not supported. For calls, Holafly recommends apps that run on data, such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger or Telegram, or keeping your home SIM on for voice and using the eSIM for data.
Where do Holafly phone number texts arrive?
In the Holafly app or your linked email, not in your phone's normal messaging app. Holafly says the number is virtual and hosted in the cloud, so incoming texts reach you over the internet. You cannot send texts from it, and some banks and services will not send codes to foreign numbers.
What happens to the Holafly phone number if I delete the eSIM?
Holafly says deleting the Holafly eSIM permanently removes your assigned number, so deactivate the line instead if you are not using it. It also says a temporary number, for example one starting +43, may appear in your phone settings; ignore it and do not delete or change it.
