Holafly compatible phones: how to check yours before you buy
Two things decide it: the phone has to support eSIM, and it has to be unlocked. Here is Holafly's list by brand, and the quick test it recommends.
Which phones are Holafly compatible phones?
The Holafly compatible phones list is short to state: any phone that supports eSIM and is unlocked from its original carrier. Holafly publishes a model list and says it updates it monthly. We read it on 8 October 2026. Below is the shape of it, not the whole list, so check your exact model on Holafly's page before you pay. We have a general guide too, on eSIM compatible phones.
The Holafly compatible phones list, by brand
- Apple iPhone
- XR, XS and XS Max, the 11 series, SE (2nd and 3rd generation), and the 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 series, the 16e, 17 series, 17e and iPhone Air. 4G iPads are listed too
- Samsung
- Galaxy S20 through S26 series including FE models, Note 20, the Z Fold and Z Flip series, several A-series models and XCover7 models
- Google Pixel
- Pixel 2 through the Pixel 11 series, including the Fold models
- Huawei
- P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, Pura 70 Pro and some newer Mate and Pura models
- Others on the list
- Oppo, Sony Xperia, Xiaomi, Motorola, Sharp AQUOS, Rakuten, Honor, Vivo, OnePlus, Nothing, Asus, Fairphone, Nokia and TCL
The page, not this summary, is the authority for your exact model.
How to check Holafly compatible phones in 30 seconds
Holafly's own compatibility article offers two checks.
- *Dial #06#.** It does not place a call and works on any brand. If an EID number shows on the info screen, the phone supports eSIM. If you see only IMEI numbers, it works with a physical SIM only.
- Look in settings. On iPhone, open Settings, then Cellular (or Mobile Service). If "Add eSIM" appears, the device supports eSIM. On Android, open Settings, Connections, SIM Manager. If "Add eSIM" appears, you are fine. Menu names vary by brand.
Does the phone have to be unlocked?
Yes. Holafly states that your phone must be carrier-unlocked to use an eSIM. A phone locked to one operator can block eSIMs from other providers even when the hardware supports them. On an iPhone, Holafly's QR troubleshooting says to look under Settings, General, About: "No SIM restrictions" is the good result, and a locked phone needs an unlock code from your provider first. Holafly's compatibility page does not spell out how to verify unlock status on every phone, so ask your carrier if unsure. If you buy and then find the phone is locked, see Holafly refund.
Where your phone was bought changes the answer
This is the exception that costs people money. Holafly says compatibility can depend on the country where the device was bought.
- iPhones: Mainland China models lack eSIM. Hong Kong and Macao models also lack it, except a few older ones (iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini, SE 2020 and XS). Holafly says the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are SIM-only in mainland China, while the iPhone Air supports eSIM there.
- Samsung: Models from China or Hong Kong do not support eSIM, and Holafly names a single Hong Kong exception, the Z Flip (SM-F700F). Some models bought in South Korea are also listed as incompatible.
- Google Pixel: Holafly says all Pixels sold in Hong Kong are incompatible.
Dual-SIM
An eSIM does not disturb your physical SIM, and Holafly says both can be used together, though only one carries mobile data at a time. Holafly also has a separate article on cellular data for laptops, which we did not read.
What is missing
Holafly does not say in these pages whether its eSIM works on a particular model you own that is absent from the list, only that the list is updated monthly. If your phone is not listed, contact Holafly support. Once you know your phone is among the Holafly compatible phones, how Holafly works takes you through install and activation, and the Holafly hub has the rest. To compare options, use cheapest eSIM.
We have not tested Holafly's plans, app or support ourselves. This page is desk research from Holafly's own site and help centre, read on 8 October 2026, and Holafly changes its rules from time to time.
Common questions
Which phones are Holafly compatible phones?
Phones that support eSIM and are carrier-unlocked. Holafly lists the iPhone XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 2 and newer, and models from many other brands including Oppo, Sony, Xiaomi, Motorola and OnePlus. Holafly says it updates the list monthly, so check your exact model.
How do I check if my phone is Holafly compatible?
Dial *#06#, which does not place a call. If an EID number appears, the phone supports eSIM; if you see only IMEI numbers, it takes a physical SIM only. You can also look for Add eSIM under Cellular on an iPhone, or under Connections, SIM Manager on an Android phone.
Does my phone need to be unlocked for Holafly?
Yes. Holafly says the phone must be carrier-unlocked, and a locked phone can block an eSIM from another provider even when the hardware supports it. On an iPhone, Settings, General, About shows "No SIM restrictions" when it is unlocked. If it is locked, ask your carrier for an unlock code.
Do iPhones from China or Hong Kong work with Holafly?
Holafly says mainland China iPhones lack eSIM. Hong Kong and Macao models also lack it, apart from a few older ones: the iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini, SE 2020 and XS. Check Holafly's list for the newest exceptions, since compatibility can depend on the country where the phone was bought.
What if my phone is not on the Holafly list?
Holafly's pages do not say whether an unlisted model works, only that the list is updated monthly. Ask Holafly support before buying, and check two things yourself: that the phone supports eSIM, using the *#06# test, and that it is carrier-unlocked. Our general eSIM compatible phones guide covers other brands.
