Vivo Brazil SIM card: the tourist plan, prepaid and eSIM
Vivo is the only Brazilian carrier we found with a page for tourists. It lists a Tourist Plan valid for 30 days from eSIM activation.
Is a Vivo Brazil SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
A Vivo Brazil SIM card looks like the most visitor-friendly of the three big Brazilian carriers, mainly because Vivo (Telefónica's Brazilian brand) has an English-language page titled "SIM Cards and Data Plans in Brazil" for its Tourist Plan. We could not open every page on the Brazilian carriers' sites from our tools, so this page keeps to what we could read. Vivo's pages blocked our direct requests, so the details below come from search extracts of Vivo's own pages and should be confirmed on vivo.com.br.
What is the Vivo Tourist Plan?
According to that page, the Vivo Tourist Plan is valid for 30 days from the day the eSIM is activated, and the page recommends activating only when you arrive in Brazil because the count starts at activation. We could not read its data allowance or price, so we give neither. If you want a Vivo tourist SIM, this is the page to open first.
Vivo prepaid and Vivo eSIM for everyone else
Vivo's ordinary prepaid plan, Vivo Pré, works on recharges, and the data and validity you get depend on the amount you add. Vivo's pages show recharge tiers, but the ones we saw carried older dates and the official store listed a different offer, so we will not quote them. Check the live page.
For eSIM, a Vivo help page says eSIM works on its postpaid, Controle, Pré and Easy plans, and that you get it at a Vivo store, a reseller or through WhatsApp, which generates a QR code. It adds that the eSIM is free for Vivo customers for a limited time that may change without notice, and that you have 30 days to download it the first time. Vivo Easy needs an activation with a physical chip first, then a move to eSIM. A separate Vivo Lite page offers an instant eSIM with activation through an app.
Do you need a CPF or ID?
The pages we reached do not say what a foreigner needs to register a Vivo line, and Brazilian prepaid lines are normally registered. Bring your passport to a Vivo store and ask. We would not rely on an online-only route as a tourist.
What does Vivo say about its coverage?
We did not read a Vivo coverage or 5G statement on the pages we could reach, so we make no claim. Vivo has a coverage map on its site. Our own Brazil notes call Vivo the widest-coverage network, but that is an unverified lead from our data, not something Vivo states.
Vivo SIM card or a travel eSIM in Brazil?
A travel eSIM can be bought and installed before you fly, which is the one thing the Vivo Tourist Plan, as described, is built to match by activating at arrival. A local plan wins if you want a Brazilian number. No travel eSIM provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network, so we cannot say whether any uses Vivo. Common questions
Does Vivo have a tourist SIM in Brazil?
Yes, Vivo has a page titled SIM Cards and Data Plans in Brazil describing a Tourist Plan, valid for 30 days after eSIM activation. It recommends activating on arrival. We could not read the price or data allowance, so check vivo.com.br before you go.
Can I get a Vivo eSIM as a visitor?
Vivo says eSIM works on its Pós, Controle, Pré and Easy plans, issued in Vivo stores, at resellers or via WhatsApp with a QR code, and you have 30 days to download it. The Tourist Plan is described as an eSIM product. Confirm availability on Vivo's site.
What do I need to register a Vivo prepaid SIM in Brazil?
The pages we reached do not say what a foreigner needs. Brazilian prepaid lines are usually registered, so take your passport to a Vivo store and ask what the tourist or prepaid route requires before paying.
How much does a Vivo prepaid SIM cost?
Vivo Pré works on recharges, with data and days depending on the amount. The tiers we saw were dated and conflicted with the store offer, so we do not quote them. Current prices are on Vivo's prepaid page.
Is a Vivo SIM card better than a travel eSIM for Brazil?
Vivo gives a Brazilian number and, via the Tourist Plan, a 30-day product that starts at activation. A travel eSIM can be installed before departure. We cannot say whether any travel eSIM runs on Vivo.
