Proximus Belgium SIM card: what a visitor can buy and the ID catch

Proximus sells a prepaid card called Pay&Go+, and it must be registered before use. Its identification page names only the Belgian eID.

Is a Proximus Belgium SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

It can be, for a longer stay, but the registration step is the thing to check first. A Proximus Belgium SIM card is a Pay&Go+ prepaid card. Proximus's own pages say the card has to be identified before first use, and the identification page we read describes a Belgian eID card with a card reader, a MyProximus login for existing customers, or a text message from a Proximus private number. It names no passport route. Whether a foreign passport is accepted at a Proximus shop is something the page does not say, so ask before you rely on it.

What does the Proximus prepaid card cost and include?

Proximus lists a starter card at 5 euros, shown as a web promotion that runs until 1 November 2026. It carries 10 euros of credit (5 plus 5 promotional), 3 GB of data, and a bonus of 500 SMS and 10 call minutes. Data is valid for 31 days. We read this on the Proximus prepaid cards page on 8 October 2026; check it, because promotions end.

Top-ups of 10, 15 and 25 euros each come with a data bonus, from 500 MB on the smallest to 5 GB on the largest. Beyond bundles the page lists calls at 0.38 euro a minute, SMS at 0.12 euro and data at 0.50 euro per MB, so a Proximus prepaid card is a bundle product. Run out of data and you pay for a boost from credit: 3 GB for 12 euros or 500 MB for 6 euros.

The card is valid for 12 months from the first call made or received. A 5 euro top-up adds one month, and a larger top-up adds 12.

Where do you get it, and is there a Proximus eSIM?

The page offers a free SIM delivered within a day to a home or pickup point, and says you can also top up in a Proximus shop, in the app or by recharge code. It does not say whether delivery works to a hotel or a non-Belgian address. It does not mention a Proximus eSIM for prepaid, so we cannot say one exists.

What does Proximus say about Proximus coverage and use abroad?

On the pages we read, Proximus does not state a coverage percentage or 4G/5G availability for the prepaid card. It does say the rates apply in Belgium and when roaming in the EU zone, and it sells a Daily Travel Passport from 5 euros per day of use for travel outside that zone. To call from abroad you need at least 1.50 euros of credit. An earlier note in our own network data praised Proximus's rural reach, but we have not confirmed that on Proximus's site, so we do not repeat it.

Proximus prepaid versus a travel eSIM in Belgium

For a few days, a travel eSIM bought before you fly avoids the identification step and the wait for a card. For weeks or repeat visits, a Pay&Go+ card can cost less, provided you can complete registration. Our Belgium SIM card comparison sets the options side by side, and the Belgium hub covers the rest. Common questions

Can a tourist buy a Proximus Belgium SIM card?

The Proximus page lets anyone order a Pay&Go+ card online, but it must then be identified before use. The identification page names a Belgian eID card with a reader, MyProximus for existing customers, or an SMS from a Proximus number. It does not say whether a passport is accepted, so ask a Proximus shop first.

How much is the Proximus prepaid card?

On 8 October 2026 the Proximus prepaid page showed a 5 euro starter with 10 euros of credit, 3 GB, 500 SMS and 10 minutes, as a promotion valid until 1 November 2026. Top-ups start at 5 euros. Check the page before buying, as the promotion and bonuses can change.

Does a Proximus prepaid card work in the EU?

Proximus says its price plan applies in Belgium and when roaming in the EU zone, excluding special numbers and third-party services. Outside that zone it sells a Daily Travel Passport from 5 euros per day of use. You need at least 1.50 euros of credit to call from abroad.

Does Proximus offer an eSIM for prepaid?

The prepaid page we read does not mention eSIM, so we cannot confirm one is available for Pay&Go+. Proximus states that the physical SIM is free and delivered within one day. If you need an eSIM, a travel eSIM is the easier route for a short visit.

How long is a Proximus prepaid card valid?

Proximus says the card is valid for 12 months from your first call, made or received. A 5 euro top-up extends validity by one month and a larger top-up by 12 months. Data bundles are valid for 31 days.
