ALBtelecom Albania SIM card: the name has been folded into One Albania
A visitor searching for an ALBtelecom Albania SIM card will not find a separate ALBtelecom product to buy. Here is what we could confirm, and what to buy instead.
Can you still buy an ALBtelecom Albania SIM card?
Probably not under that name. Wikipedia's article on the company lists ALBtelecom as defunct from 14 March 2023, following a merger with One Telecommunications, with One Albania as the successor. We have to be straight about the limits here. That is a reference article, not the operator, and we could not check it against a primary source: the albtelecom.al domain did not resolve for us on 8 October 2026, and the One Albania site (one.al) loaded for our tools as a page title only. So treat the merger as a strong lead, not a confirmed fact.
What it means for a traveller is simple. If a blog or a map pin sends you to an "ALBtelecom prepaid" counter, ask the shop which brand is on the SIM, and check the price on a current sheet before you pay.
What did ALBtelecom sell, and what do we know about its coverage?
We have nothing from ALBtelecom itself that we can stand behind. We did not read a coverage map, a 4G or 5G claim, a tourist pack or a price list from the operator, so we are not repeating any of them. Anything we have seen elsewhere about "good 4G on the Riviera" is an unverified note, and it does not belong on this page as a fact.
Which Albanian SIM can we describe from a primary source?
Vodafone Albania, because its site was readable. On 8 October 2026 its tourist eSIM announcement listed four prepaid packs, with prices in lek including VAT:
- 1 GB for 1 day, listed at 0 ALL
- 3 GB for 3 days, 600 ALL
- 5 GB for 5 days, 1,000 ALL
- 20 GB for 10 days, 1,700 ALL
The page says the packs join the range from 15 May 2026 and can be activated only through Vodafone's own website. It does not mention ID. Vodafone's home page also lists a separate SIM Tourist Pack, Vodafone shops with a store locator, and an online shop, though it gives no prices for the physical route. Our full write-up is on the Vodafone Albania page.
ALBtelecom Albania SIM card or a travel eSIM?
A travel eSIM installs before you fly and needs no counter, queue or passport check at the airport. A local SIM can be cheaper per gigabyte on a long stay, and the 20 GB Vodafone pack above shows the order of magnitude for a short one. We set out the trade-off in our Albania SIM comparison and on our cheapest eSIM page. The country overview is on the Albania hub, and the other legacy brand is covered on the Eagle Mobile page.
This is desk research from public pages, not a test of any SIM.
Common questions
Is there still an ALBtelecom Albania SIM card for tourists?
We could not find one. Wikipedia lists ALBtelecom as defunct since 14 March 2023, with One Albania as its successor, but we could not confirm that on the operator's own site, which did not load for our tools. Ask the shop which brand a SIM carries, or choose a provider whose tourist packs you can read online.
What replaced ALBtelecom in Albania?
According to Wikipedia, ALBtelecom merged with One Telecommunications and the successor is One Albania. That is a secondary source. We could not open One Albania's tourist pages to read what it sells, so check its site or a shop for current packs and prices instead of relying on this page.
Does ALBtelecom have good coverage in Albania?
We cannot say. We did not read any coverage figure or map from ALBtelecom, and the brand appears to have been merged, so older claims may no longer apply. For a current picture, use the coverage tools on a live operator's site, or test with a travel eSIM first.
Which Albanian operator publishes tourist prices online?
Vodafone Albania does. Its tourist eSIM announcement lists 1 GB for a day at 0 lek, 3 GB for 3 days at 600, 5 GB for 5 days at 1,000 and 20 GB for 10 days at 1,700, including VAT, and says activation is only through its website.
Do I need a passport to buy a SIM in Albania?
The pages we could read do not say. Vodafone's eSIM announcement does not mention ID, and we found nothing from ALBtelecom. Carry your passport when buying a physical SIM in a shop, and confirm with the staff what they register.
