Saily in New Zealand: cheapest on paper, unchecked in practice

Saily's New Zealand range is five capped plans and nothing else. No unlimited tier, no calls, no SMS.

Every one of those figures is indicative. We have not read them off Saily's own checkout, which is the standard we apply before calling a price verified. That distinction is the whole story of this page, because the provider Saily is competing with in New Zealand — Airalo — is one we have checked.

Set the matching sizes against each other and Saily wins each time:

A dollar at 5GB, four at 10GB, eight at 20GB. That is a consistent 7% to 21% saving, which is worth having but is not the kind of gap that should override everything else. Saily's 20GB plan has since been read off its own site at $37.99, and the argument for it has largely evaporated: Nomad's verified 20GB is $28.

Nomad is the harder comparison, because its New Zealand prices have now been read at source too, on 17 August 2026. It undercuts Saily at the two largest sizes — a verified $18 against $23.99 at 10GB, and $28 against $37.99 at 20GB — and sits a cent below it at 3GB and 5GB. Those Saily figures have been read off Saily's own site since; this page previously had them at $19.99 and $29.99, which understated both. The sizes where Saily's listed prices lead are the ones where the lead is a rounding error; the sizes where the gap is real go the other way, against a price somebody has checked.

Everything lasts a month

The quiet strength of Saily's New Zealand range is its validity. Four of the five plans run for thirty days, and the fifth gives you a week for 1GB. There is no seven-day version of the 10GB plan sitting next to the thirty-day one at a slightly lower price, waiting to catch out somebody who buys in a hurry at the airport.

That matters in New Zealand specifically. Trips here slip. Ferries get cancelled in Cook Strait, roads close on the West Coast, and the two-week itinerary becomes a seventeen-day one. A range where every plan already covers a month removes a decision you would otherwise have to get right in advance.

Saily's 1GB/7-day plan at a verified $3.99 is also the cheapest weekly entry price we list for the country — this page previously printed $3.79, which Saily does not charge. Nomad's verified 1GB week is $4.50.

Where Saily runs out

Twenty gigabytes is the ceiling. If you want more than that, Saily has nothing to sell you and the alternatives are all more expensive per month: Airalo's verified 50GB at $49, Holafly's indicative unlimited month at $47, Airalo's verified unlimited month at $71.

So the shape of the decision is clear enough. At 3GB and 5GB Saily is the cheapest listed option, by a cent over Nomad. At 10GB and 20GB Nomad's verified prices are lower — $18 against $19.99, and $28 against $29.99. At 20GB the price gap to unlimited is $17 — Saily's $29.99 against Holafly's $47 — and if you are tethering a laptop across a month-long campervan trip, that is money worth spending for the cap to disappear. Above 20GB, Saily is not in the conversation.

Airalo's 50GB month is also the best per-gigabyte figure in our New Zealand data at 98 cents, well under Saily's best of $1.50. Volume buyers should go there.

The network we cannot confirm

Our data used to list "Spark NZ / One NZ" against two of Saily's five New Zealand plans and nothing against the other three. That inconsistency was itself the clue: the entry was scraped from older generated prose rather than read off Saily's site, and Saily names no operator for New Zealand or for any country it sells in.

So treat it as a provider listing that nobody has checked. Do not choose Saily because you have concluded it will land on Spark. New Zealand's three networks behave differently outside the main centres, and Milford Sound, Fiordland, the West Coast hinterland, Central Otago back roads and the far reaches of the Abel Tasman track have little or no coverage on any of them.

Verdict

Saily is the value pick in New Zealand at 3GB and 5GB, on the condition that you confirm the price yourself at checkout — and even there it leads Nomad's checked prices by a single cent. At 10GB and 20GB, Nomad's verified $18 and $28 are the better buy. The thirty-day validity across Saily's range is still a genuine advantage over Airalo's shorter tiers, and the savings against Airalo are real if the listed numbers hold.

It is the wrong choice if you need more than 20GB, if you want unlimited, or if you want a New Zealand phone number — for that last one, a local prepaid SIM costs around $15 at the airport and requires no ID at all.
