2degrees New Zealand SIM card: the Unlimited Travel SIM
The 2degrees Unlimited Travel SIM is sold by the day, up to 30 days at a time. The page does not say it comes as an eSIM, and warns of gaps in the bush.
Is a 2degrees New Zealand SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
For city and main-road travel, yes. For remote driving, think twice. The 2degrees New Zealand SIM card for visitors is the Unlimited Travel SIM, a physical SIM that you buy by the number of days. Our New Zealand notes say 2degrees is good in urban areas with rural gaps, and 2degrees itself warns that you may lose signal "too far out into the bush" where it has no towers.
What is the 2degrees Unlimited Travel SIM?
The product page (read 8 October 2026) says the SIM includes unlimited data, calls and texts to New Zealand and Australian numbers within New Zealand, subject to fair use. Hotspotting and tethering are allowed. A single purchase is capped at 30 days, and boosts start from NZ$5 for an extra day. The page does not list the price of the opening purchase, which it says sits on travelsim.2degrees.nz, so check it there.
A search extract of 2degrees' help and press pages added that you can add days by scanning the QR code on the SIM pack or visiting the travel SIM site, and that the SIM stays on your number for up to 12 months after you leave but works only in New Zealand. It cannot be converted into a regular prepaid plan. We did not confirm those on the product page itself.
Where do you buy it, and what ID do you need?
The page says you can order from a partner with free delivery worldwide, or buy at select airports, popular tourist destinations and 2degrees retail stores, excluding partner stores. It mentions no ID requirement. It describes a physical SIM that fits micro, multi and nano slots.
Does 2degrees offer an eSIM for visitors?
Not that we could find. The Travel SIM page does not say it comes as an eSIM. A search extract of 2degrees' help pages said that an eSIM is available on a new Prepay plan, chosen at online checkout, or set up in a store, only on selected iOS and Android models. That is for the regular Prepay plan. If you want an eSIM, ask 2degrees what a visitor can get.
2degrees coverage and 5G
The page makes no 5G claim and gives no coverage percentage. The only coverage statement is the warning about areas without towers. Open the 2degrees coverage map for every region you will drive.
2degrees SIM card or a travel eSIM?
A travel eSIM installed at home saves a collection stop, while the Travel SIM posts to you for free or can be picked up. Pricing per day suits flexible trips. No travel eSIM provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network. Compare on our New Zealand SIM card page and cheapest eSIM. Also read Spark NZ and One NZ, and the New Zealand hub.
Common questions
What is the 2degrees Unlimited Travel SIM?
It is a physical SIM for visitors with unlimited data, calls and texts to New Zealand and Australian numbers within New Zealand, subject to fair use. You buy by the day, up to 30 days per purchase, and hotspotting is allowed. Opening prices are on the 2degrees travel SIM site.
Does 2degrees have a tourist eSIM?
We could not find one. The Travel SIM page describes only a physical SIM. 2degrees' help pages mention an eSIM for new Prepay plans on selected phones, which is a different product, so ask 2degrees what a visitor can get.
Where can I buy a 2degrees SIM card?
2degrees says you can order one from a partner with free delivery worldwide, or buy at select airports, popular tourist destinations and 2degrees retail stores, excluding partner stores. The page does not list which airports, so check before you fly.
How good is 2degrees coverage for tourists?
The product page makes no coverage percentage claim and warns that coverage can drop in bush areas without towers. Our notes rate 2degrees good in cities and weaker in rural areas. Check its map before a remote drive.
Is the 2degrees SIM better than a travel eSIM for New Zealand?
It is priced by the day and includes NZ and Australian calling, but it is a physical SIM that must be delivered or collected. A travel eSIM can be installed before departure. We cannot say which network any travel eSIM uses.
