The entry plan is still the standout

The $3.99 tier is not just cheap, it is cheap for a useful length of time. Airalo's entry plan is $4 for 1GB, but that runs 3 days. Saily gives you 7 for a penny less. For a stopover in Sydney, a weekend in Melbourne, or the two days between landing and sorting out something more permanent, that is the correct purchase and nothing in the Australia data beats it.

What 1GB actually covers: maps, messaging, transit apps, restaurant bookings, a modest amount of scrolling, with hotel and cafe WiFi doing the heavy work at night. It does not cover video, cloud photo backup, or a tethered laptop.

Above 1GB it wins on cents, not dollars

Saily sells a full ladder in Australia — 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20GB — and at every 30-day size it lands fractionally under Airalo's verified 30-day price:

At 3GB the nearest 30-day rival is Nomad's verified $7.00; Airalo's 3GB plans run 3 and 7 days, at $7.50 and $8.

A penny is not a reason to choose anything. What it does mean is that the old case against Saily — mid-field pricing at every size above the entry plan — no longer holds. It is now level with the cheapest verified option across the whole 30-day ladder, and it is the cheapest verified 30-day price at 5, 10 and 20GB.

Where Saily is genuinely beaten

Two places.

If you only need a short window, Airalo's shorter-validity plans cost less in absolute terms: 3GB/7 days at $8 against a longer month for $7.99 is a wash, but 5GB/7 days at $10 and 10GB/7 days at $16.50 both undercut Saily's month. If you are in the country for a week, the shorter plan is the cheaper buy.

If you need real volume, Saily's ladder stops at 20GB. Airalo's runs to a verified 50GB/30 days at $45 — $0.90 per GB, half Saily's best rate of $1.50 at 20GB. Anyone tethering a laptop for a month should not be shopping in Saily's range at all.

Nomad's verified 20GB month at $24 sits well under Saily's, and it is a price somebody has read. An eSIM Go row at $17 for 10GB sits lower again and is not an option at all.

What the Nord Security name gets you

Saily is built by Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, and the app reflects that — clean, few steps, no upsell maze. If you already run their VPN, the account is one you have.

It is not a coverage advantage, a speed advantage, or a support advantage that we can measure. Hotspot is supported on the Australia plans, as it is on every other provider's here. Treat the brand as a tiebreaker, which is exactly what the pricing now makes it.

The network question, which nobody answers

Saily does not publish which Australian network its eSIM roams onto. Its plan pages promise only a reliable connection from the country's best networks, and name no carrier anywhere. The same blank sits against Airalo, Nomad and eSIMCard in our Australia data, and eSIM Go has no consumer page on which it could fill it in — and Nomad names no host network in any of the 47 countries it sells in. We will not infer one from a plan page, and no recommendation on this site rests on a carrier we have not sourced.

That has a practical consequence outside the cities. Australian coverage away from the coastal strip varies sharply by carrier, and a travel eSIM gives you no say in which one you get. A local prepaid SIM does: roughly $18 at the airport, offered by Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Boost Mobile, with no ID required to buy. For a road trip through regional Australia, that choice is worth more than any of the price gaps on this page.

Verdict

Buy the $3.99 plan without hesitating; it is the best short-trip option in our Australia data. Above it, Saily is a penny under Airalo at 5, 10 and 20GB, but no longer the cheapest verified price at any of them: Nomad's checked ladder is $10, $15 and $24 at those sizes, $1 to $6 below Saily. Look elsewhere too if your trip is a week long, where Airalo's short-window plans cost less, or if you need more than 20GB, where Nomad's 50GB at $32 and Airalo's at $45 are the only options.
